Islamic College of Brisbane

Curriculum of Primary School at Islamic College of Brisbane (ICB)

ICB strives to align beliefs, curriculum, environment and pedagogy with our Islamic traditions. Through this synergy and founded on the goals of the ‘Alice Springs Declaration’, we develop confident, creative, young individuals proud of their Muslim identity and who flourish in their overall wellbeing contributing positively and actively to their community. Our educational approach is designed for total human development, transformation, tarbiyah, thus facilitating the holistic development and excellence of mind, body and spirit.

In the Primary School, we design teaching and learning to be curious, fun and involve active participation. Implementing Islamically aligned age-appropriate strategies, your child will be nurtured in their learning journey. They will draw on prior knowledge, pose questions, actively participate in hands-on experiences, investigate, engage in discussions (halaqah) and develop explanations and connections to cultivate a mindful awareness and deepen their understanding.

Emulating the Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) educational approach, our educators develop close relationships with your child, identifying and understanding their needs and learning preferences. We believe that primary prevention and early intervention approaches are pivotal to assisting each student cultivate a positive self-esteem and a healthy mindset necessary for the resilience and risk taking inherent in the learning process. Through collaborative and dedicated teams, we leverage the expertise of specialists to support your child’s learning journey, recognising the growth and development of the whole child; spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically and mentally.

The Gradual Release of Instruction model co-exists to foster your child’s independent learning. As knowledge (‘ilm) is acquired, the intellectual weight transfers from teacher to student – progressing from “I do”, “We do”, and ultimately “You do” fostering self-reliance.

Your child will be fully prepared to navigate their future. They will be resourced with confidence, resilience, persistence, self-discipline and expertise to actively engage in addressing challenges and creating a positive impact.
