It is time to introduce myself to the parents and friends of the College who may not have met me yet. As the newly appointed College Nurse, my role has been evolving and my number one priority has been to create a functional and safe Health Centre for our students and staff. The restructured first aid area has been met with great enthusiasm and support from parents, teachers, the Imams and administration staff.
Our students have enjoyed the added care that they receive and the Health Centre has become a very busy hub for medication administration and first aid.
I want to congratulate you all on the delightful young people that I have met so far and while I hope that your children remain healthy and well, it is a pleasure to look after such polite, respectful and friendly students.
My nursing background is varied and includes community nursing, general practice, tele-health and triage, management and research. I have worked as a College Nurse previously and understand the health needs of a prep to senior school campus including some of the requirements for Workplace Health and Safety.
As part of this commitment to ongoing health and safety the College has recently completed the year 8 vaccination program to meet Immunisation recommendations. New dates have already been set for 2016 for the Year 7 and 8 students. Information and consent forms will be sent home in the New Year. If your student has missed any vaccinations you should speak to your General Practitioner about receiving ‘catch up’ doses.
There are a number of other health initiatives that are in the planning pipeline and as part of this process; I am pleased to announce that Akrim Mahouchi was recently appointed in a full time role for emotional support and vocational guidance for students.
When I am not here at the College, I am kept busy with my teenage children and a variety of four legged friends. One of my greatest joys is spending time at the beach, riding horses and sharing time with my family and friends. I do admit to enjoying good food too!
Please feel free to say hello and have a look at the health centre. If your children need medication, or they have an illness or injury while they are at school, I am here to help them. Please contact me if I can assist your children in any way.
Thank you for the warm welcome. It has been a very rewarding experience.
