Learning from home - ICB SECONDARY SCHOOL

During the delivery of online learning, the Secondary School will rely on familiar online learning platforms, in particular Microsoft Teams, to provide continuity of learning. Teachers will implement an online learning approach that is a combination of scheduled ‘lessons’ and self-paced teaching and use online resources to allow students to learn outside the constraints of time and place.

Families will be provided with a term overview for each subject area.  This will provide a brief outline of the topic(s) and skills to be taught each week.

Each Monday morning students and parents will be provided with a weekly overview outlining more detail of the content and activities that are expected to be covered in that week and the schedule for any ‘live lessons’.  Teachers will create explicit lessons that will be delivered to learners via Microsoft Teams.  Note that all live lessons will be recorded and stored in the respective subject Team site to allow catch up and review.
Our subscription to Mightyminds continues and students in Years 7 to 9 will be set their 45 weekly questions across Literacy, Numeracy and Science.  (we are aiming to also introduce this plan to Year 10 in the near future).  Teachers may, from time to time, also set their own activities from this and other online programs.  These online activities will also be supported by physical resources such as text and workbooks (including e-books).

Term 2 Commencement

Online/Remote learning

We will be commencing our online learning units from Monday, 20th April.

School times:

From 20th April to 22nd May – 8:30 am to 2:10 pm (Ramadan)

From 25th May to 22nd June – 8:30 am to 3:10 pm

Communication with teachers

If a student requires assistance, they can contact their class teacher through the chat function on teams.  Learners and/or parents can also contact teachers via email. During the school week, teachers will endeavour to reply within 24 hours but this is not guaranteed.
Where necessary and appropriate, teachers will also schedule online check-in opportunities for learners.  We appreciate the need to maintain connection between home and school.  For general information we will be using the College website.  This should be treated as the definitive source of up to date information.  We are describing the website as the Single Source of Truth (SSOT) in recognition that clarity and accuracy of information is of paramount importance.

Wishing you and your family happy Ramadan!
Regards,
Mr Martineau
